Maxar Technologies has provided the Australian defense department with 3D data suite and satellite imagery meant to inform military decision-making process and enhance situational awareness in support of national defense and intelligence missions.
The company said Thursday its 3D Surface Model for the Australian agency is designed to show terrain and surface features and textures in a high-fidelity, positionally accurate and photorealistic data based on commercial satellite imagery.
Digital Terrain Model, another product included in the 3D data suite, leverages automated processing to provide a data layer of bare Earth elevation that could be used in flood and slope assessments and topographic change identification.
Tony Frazier, executive vice president of global field operations at Maxar and a 2021 Wash100 Award recipient, said the delivery expands the company’s partnership with the Australian defense department. According to him, Maxar’s 3D data products and satellite imagery could provide mapping, planning and operational support.
The products were delivered under Maxar’s multi-million-dollar contracts with Australia.
As a Direct Access Program partner, the department has access to download imagery from Maxar satellite network to the ground station.
