A Raytheon Technologies business will update the baseline Block 1 of the GPS Next-Generation Operational Control System under a contract with the U.S. Space Force to facilitate the operation of the GPS III Follow-On satellites.
“The IIIF satellites will provide military and civilian users with enhanced GPS capabilities,” Sandy Brown, vice president of strategic systems at Raytheon Intelligence and Space, said in a statement published Monday.
“The ground control upgrade will provide enhanced signal reliability, accuracy, integrity, advanced jam-resistant signals and effects-based operations,” Brown added.
GPS OCX is a ground control segment used to track, update and monitor GPS satellites and is divided into three blocks. GPS OCX Block 1 is set for delivery in 2022.
The ground control system upgrade will take place over a period of four years and will include verification testing and hardware and software modifications.
Raytheon said of the 17 GPS monitor stations, 13 are now fielded worldwide and that the GPS system simulator has received accreditation.
