General Atomics' electromagnetic systems unit has inaugurated its customer service hub in Patuxent River, Maryland, that will serve customers such as Naval Air Systems Command and support local business growth efforts of the company.
James Donnelly, director of maritime program operations at GA-EMS, will manage the office and ensure the delivery of launch and recovery systems that are intended for the U.S. Navy's Ford-class nuclear powered aircraft carriers, General Atomics said Monday.
He will also be the point person for GA-EMS' maritime programs within the East Coast, including its role in the construction of nuclear submarines and unmanned undersea vehicles.
The Navy's Patuxent River airbase houses the NAVAIR headquarters, Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic, Naval Test Wing Atlantic and Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division and the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School.
GA-EMS President Scott Forney, said the group has supported NAVAIR's carrier-based Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and Advanced Arresting Gear programs for almost two decades through the General Atomics HQ in San Diego and other company facilities in Mississippi and New Jersey.
“Now, our Pax River office literally opens the door to our customers to help improve communication and collaboration at the local level,” Forney added.
