Executive Mosaic is honored to present Mary Petryszyn, corporate vice president of Defense Systems with Northrop Grumman, as a 2021 Wash100 Award recipient for her efforts to drive modernization and support new technology offerings for the defense, security and military sectors.

This marks Petryszyn first Wash100 Award. With Northrop Grumman, Petryszyn supervises the delivery of a broad spectrum of critical technology services, sustainment and modernization, integrated battle command systems, tactical weapons and information systems to a wide variety of national security, military and civilian customers.

Throughout 2020, Petryszyn has advanced her track record of transformational leadership, creating vision and strategy for business growth. She is focused on dynamic mission-sets with quick-turn requirements for a wide variety of national security, military and civilian customers.

Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is a full-spectrum provider of innovative mission-critical solutions in aircraft sustainment and modernization, training and simulation, integrated battle command systems, advanced weapons and software development and IT modernization and sustainment.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems supports a broad array of civil, defense and international customers through an innovative portfolio of solutions, including Integrated Air and Missile Defense; Defensive Cyber and Information Operations; Aircraft Sustainment, Modernization and Services; Advanced Weapons, Munitions and Propulsion Systems; Software Development and IT Modernization and Sustainment; and Training and Simulation.

The sector's global customer base is engaged on the front lines of security, irregular warfare, modernization and sustainment, nuclear and homeland security and other mission-focused activities.

This year, Northrop Grumman was awarded a $222.5 million contract to help the U.S. Space Force operate and maintain a constellation of satellites used to detect ballistic missile launches and nuclear detonations.

The company will support the Defense Support Program mission threats, address anomalies, and provide space awareness as part of a DSP satellite lifetime extension program. The Space and Missile Systems Center obligated $18 million in fiscal 2020 operations and maintenance funds at the time of the award.

DSP satellites, which function as the spaceborne component of the North American Aerospace Defense Command's Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment system, are built with infrared detectors that can sense missile plumes.

Moving into the new year, Northrop Grumman published an article in Feb. 2021, discussing how the company’s communications systems provide foundational elements for the Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2).

“Understanding how these adversaries are harnessing new technology, responding with new operational concepts and enhanced lethality in accelerated timelines is how the Department of Defense (DoD) intends to retain a strategic advantage on the battlefield,” the company wrote.

Northrop Grumman has led the design, development and delivery of end-to-end communications and advanced networking capabilities for military forces. The company’s communications systems have delivered integrated, open and advanced networking capabilities needed to support the foundation of JADC2.

Northrop Grumman’s gateway offerings have advanced the flow of data and strengthened the overall command-and-control structure of the DoD. The company’s systems have also helped interconnect branches of the military.

The company’s leading Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) has delivered interoperable voice and data communications since 2008. Northrop Grumman’s BACN gateway system and sustainment efforts, combined with both manned and unmanned aircraft have delivered enhanced communications and situational awareness to defeat threats in the most challenging battlefield environments.
