A Neustar-sponsored study revealed that 79 percent of over 1,000 surveyed security professionals see threat data feeds as an essential tool to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of their organizations.
Neustar said Monday it sponsored Ponemon Institute's study that aims to determine the effectiveness of threat feeds in strengthening cybersecurity.
Ponemon looked at how threat feeds inform the cybersecurity operations of organizations in the U.S. and in the U.K. Seventy-one percent of respondents said threat data feeds inform security via unique data while 63 percent of them said the feeds boost preventive blocking.
Over half of the security professionals also said threat feeds speed up threat detection and response, and accelerate investigations on false positives.
However, 56 percent of respondents also said the data from threat feeds can be too large, complex and not suitable for timely response.
The study also found that the organizations of the respondents witnessed 28 cyber attacks on average over the last two years. Thirty-eight percent of these attacks, on average, were not deterred due to an insufficiency of actionable information.
Participants said threat feed-based actionable intelligence can help organizations prevent 50 percent of cyber attacks.
“Facing an increase in the volume, sophistication and diversity of threats, enterprises are investing significant resources into threat intelligence solutions to bolster their cyber defenses,†said Michael Kaczmarek, senior vice president at Neustar.
The company offers the UltraThreat Feeds service designed to help organizations detect cyber threat indicators, Kaczmarek added.
