DARPA extends licensing, agreement for Tortuga, chip verification tool

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has extended its partnership with San Jose, California-based hardware security company Tortuga Logic to use the latter’s security verification product for semiconductor research and development.

Tortuga said Tuesday the licensing agreement, which comes as part of DARPA’s Toolbox effort, enables the agency to deploy the company's Radix chip verification tool for assurance and verification procedures associated with semiconductor manufacturing.

Radix’s vulnerability detection features are meant to help chip developers address potential risks in semiconductor types such as field-programmable gate array, system-on-a-chip and application-specific integrated circuit.

Brian Walsh, director of sales at Tortuga Logic, said the team seeks to promote proactive security approaches during the semiconductor design process.

The Toolbox effort focuses on providing the DARPA with access to commercial intellectual property and tools for research purposes.
