A BAE Systems business unit has received a potential $50 million firm-fixed-price contract from the U.S. Navy to repair, maintain and modernize an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer.

BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair will facilitate work in support of the military service branch's USS Russell and deploy employees who will be responsible for the ship's update and continued operations, the Department of Defense said Monday.

The award has a $34.7 million base value and would reach its potential value if the service branch exercises all options.

Work covers fiscal 2021 selected restricted availability and is scheduled for completion in September 2022.

BAE competed with two other offerors as part of the contract's procurement process through the FedBizOpps website, which has been moved to beta.SAM.gov.
