The U.S. Army seeks white papers on systems that would protect hypersonic weapons from the harmful effects of heat.
The service branch said Friday in a SAM notice it needs information on materials and processes needed to prototype thermal protection systems for the Common Hypersonic Glide Body of long-range hypersonic weapons.
The Army's Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office wants to develop a prototype TPS based on a technical data package and support other government programs through the resulting product.
A future contractor for the effort would procure or produce needed components, build prototypes and integrate the TPS with CHGB units.
The contractor would also coordinate TPS design changes, support subcontractors and develop assessment methods for the TPS prototypes.
The Army could award an Other Transaction Agreement for Prototype to the selected company.
Interested parties may ask questions up to March 18 and submit white papers through March 26.
