Jump Aero has received a U.S. Air Force research contract of an undisclosed sum in support of the development of an electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft that has potential defense application.
The JA1 eVTOL platform is being designed to bring first responders to emergency areas at a rapid pace, the company said Wednesday.
The contract is a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer award and is in support of Agility Prime, an initiative that seeks to grow the air mobility vehicle market.
Jump Aero and Oklahoma State University have partnered under the contract to calibrate aircraft instrument landing systems and navigational aids, and advance the maturation of the JA1 concept.
OSU teamed up with the Federal Aviation Administration to assess the feasibility of using software-defined radios to augment the safety of ILS and navigational aid inspection.
The company will also use a subscale demonstrator to potentially fine-tune the ILS without shutting down runways.
