Raytheon Technologies’ intelligence and space business is applying a DevSecOps approach in efforts to speed up software development and enhancement processes.
The company said Monday the methodology works to help developers accelerate coding, capability building, testing and deployment efforts while performing iterative updates.
“We’re in a time crunch, where new software updates come out even before the latest update is installed,†said David Appel, vice president of defense and civil solutions at Raytheon Intelligence & Space.
Appel noted that speedy hardware reconfiguration and recalibration approaches could take advantage of rapid computer program advancements.
Raytheon pointed to its mission data processing application framework for the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution program as an example of a project that leverages DevSecOps and added that the Department of Defense could rapidly modernize aircraft software through standardization of certain hardware development elements.
“The threat model is changing. Spend more time on the software and the threats, and you can react more quickly," Appel added.
