Northrop Grumman completed an engineering and manufacturing development baseline review for the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent program in November 2020.

More than 100 people participated in the three-day virtual EMD baseline assessment of GBSD, which included a review of user requirements, configuration elements and program data, Northrop said Tuesday.

“Achieving this milestone demonstrates our team’s commitment to deliver a safe, secure and reliable system to the U.S. Air Force on-schedule and on-budget,” said Steve Lunny, vice president of GBSD program at Northrop. “Our team is applying a digital engineering approach that will produce a modern strategic deterrent capability for our nation and its allies.”

The company is on schedule to conduct an integrated baseline review of the GBSD program.

In September, Northrop secured the potential $13.3 billion GBSD EMD contract from the U.S. Air Force to update the country’s aging intercontinental ballistic missile system. Once the EMD phase is completed, the company will build and deliver an ICBM system with a goal of helping the service achieve initial operational capability by 2029.

The Northrop-led team working on the GBSD program includes Aerojet Rocketdyne, Bechtel, Clark Construction, Collins Aerospace, General Dynamics, Honeywell, Kratos Defense and Security Solutions, L3Harris Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Textron Systems.
