Federated Wireless has partnered with Amazon Web Services, Cisco, Perspecta Labs, Vectrus, JMA and Capstone Partners to deploy a Citizens Broadband Radio Service-enabled private 5G wireless network for the Department of Defense.
The prototype deployment is part of a multiyear initiative that seeks to modernize Marine Corps Logistics Command’s warehouse operations in Albany, Georgia, through the creation of a reference design for a 5G smart warehouse, Federated Wireless said Wednesday.
“This is one of the first of several forward-leaning projects that we and our partners are engaged in with the U.S. government, all designed to accelerate the nation’s 5G trajectory,†said Sal D’Itri, vice president and general manager of the federal business unit for Federated Wireless and chairman of the National Spectrum Consortium.Â
“The DOD, often referred to as the first Enterprise, is leading the way for 5G innovation to help stimulate market growth, helping to realize the extensive promises of 5G private networks for work, education, recreation and communication,†he added.
AWS will provide its ruggedized AWS Snowcone data transfer and edge computing device, while Cisco will offer its SDN transport network architecture backed by Cisco Ultra Virtual Packet Core, mobile edge processing and backhaul and fronthaul switching capabilities.
Perspecta Labs is supporting the private 5G wireless network by carrying out an end-to-end security assessment. Vectrus is performing an end-to-end risk assessment.
Capstone Partners has tapped 3D visual technology company IKIN to field holographic capabilities to identify, locate and retrieve materials.
