Lockheed Martin has ordered more than 150 training subsystems for the F-35 Lightning II Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation system from Cubic's mission and performance solutions business under a $32 million contract between the two companies.
Cubic said Thursday it will deliver two additional P5 Combat Training System production lots to Lockheed to ensure that F-35 P5 systems will be available for deployment through 2025.
The P5CTS for the F-35 aircraft functions as an internal subsystem configuration and supports the dissemination of time, space and position information while aircraft and range ground stations train on combat missions.
Mike Knowles, a Cubic senior vice president and president of the CMPS business, said U.S. forces, allies and partners can use the P5 instrumentation tools to prepare for air combat operations with fourth- and fifth-generation aircraft.
Knowles added that more than 30 range facilities worldwide employ the system to facilitate training.
Leonardo DRS will assist Cubic in the production and maintenance of P5 internal subsystems as the latter's principal subcontractor.
To date, more than 1,150 F-35 P5 units are on contract between Lockheed and Cubic.
