Benji Hutchinson, president of NEC Corp.'s U.S. federal government arm, has been appointed to lead the Security Industry Association's identity and biometric technology advisory board as chair while Jim Black, a director at Microsoft, will serve as its vice chair.

The pair will drive IBTAB's efforts to help the association campaign for the employment of biometric and digital identification tools and oversee engagement efforts with critical infrastructure operators from the government and commercial sectors, SIA said Friday.

Hutchinson brings two decades of experience in the biometrics, computer vision, biometrics and IT markets to his new capacity.

Prior to NEC, he handled government accounts at MorphoTrust USA and spent time at the U.S. Army Biometrics Task Force and the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense.

Black currently manages security standards and controls for Microsoft's cloud-critical infrastructures. He also received certifications from ASIS International and the International Association of Professional Security Consultants.

Don Erickson, CEO of SIA, said the two appointees helped the organization implement its education and advocacy programs for the identification technology market.
