The Department of the Air Force is seeking information from the academia, federal research institutions and industry players on 5G services and capabilities to support space data transmission efforts.
A Beta SAM notice posted Friday says Space and Missile Command aims to identify approaches that could allow the application of 5G technologies into SDT processes.
According to the request for information notice, potential areas of development covered by the effort include network slice orchestration, trustworthy autonomous networks, cybersecurity, internet of space things, multi-tenant edge computing and network topology.
Radio access network slicing, millimeter-wave bands, multiple input and multiple output links, artificial intelligence, machine and deep learning are other topics of interest.
Aside from 5G technologies, DAF plans to adapt mobility support, big data and radio frequency access capabilities to respond to U.S. space system needs.
Interested vendors have until March 18 to send their responses to the RFI via electronic format.
