Viasat has ramped up its monthly production of next generation tactical data link radio to more than 200 non-developmental item Link 16 radios in a bid to meet the demand of various clients from the U.S. and international defense markets.
The Carlsbad, California-based communications company said Tuesday it remains on schedule to manufacture 25 Battlefield Awareness Targeting System-Embedded Link 16 radios, or more, per month.
BATS-E is intended to provide the military unmanned platforms with data access and sharing capabilities for situational awareness.
Viasat also intends to speed up production rates for the KOR-24A Small Tactical Terminal and AN/PRC-161 Battlefield Awareness Targeting System-Dismounted systems to achieve the 200-Link 16 radio target for near-term demands.
Ken Peterman, president of Viasat's government systems business, said the company's link 16 radios are designed to comply with the Department of Defense's cryptographic modernization standards and meet emerging threat requirements.
He attributed Viasat's speedy development and delivery of products to its NDI business model.
