Steve Orrin, chief technology officer at Intel’s federal arm, and Cameron Chehreh, CTO of Dell Technologies’ federal business, wrote in a joint article published Monday on Nextgov that a 5G-enabled architecture requires government agencies to implement a risk-based approach to security that takes into consideration the whole data lifecycle.
“As 5G allows agencies to deploy smarter programming to the edge and make sense of growing pools of data in real-time, their security must cover the entire data lifecycle and must adapt to ever-changing levels of risk,†they wrote.
They cited the need for agencies to ensure the security of data, artificial intelligence models and algorithms in the age of 5G.
Chehreh and Orrin also discussed how 5G could transform information technology and enable AI to generate insights from data in real time.
“By embedding AI into this architecture, networks and services can transform in real-time based on situations edge nodes are seeing. Thus, 5G will allow agencies to deliver more smart programming to the network and the tactical edge. It will also fuel the digitization of every aspect of life,†they wrote.
