Lockheed Martin entered into a master research agreement with Purdue University Thursday to explore hypersonics and other topics including cybersecurity, high temperature materials, optics and systems engineering.

The MRA builds upon existing partnerships between the two entities and seeks to expand opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students as well as to accelerate research and development activities, Purdue said Friday.

The partnership invested over $600,000 in research funds and started collaborative efforts in hypersonics. Lockheed also contributed to the design of the university's Mach 8 quiet wind tunnel facility.

Purdue recently received a hypersonic pulse shock tunnel from Northrop Grumman and secured funding for the wind tunnel project.

The university has 40 hypersonics researchers who are experts in aerodynamics, aerothermal effects, autonomy, high-temperature materials, manufacturing, navigation, propulsion and system engineering.
