HackerOne and the Defense Digital Service have launched the third iteration of a competition designed to identify the U.S. Army's cybersecurity gaps.
Hack the Army 3.0 challenges civilian and military parties to discover vulnerabilities within the Army's digital systems and inform the service branch about needed security changes, HackerOne said Wednesday.
The bug bounty event began on Wednesday and will continue to run through Feb. 17.
Brig. Gen. Adam Volant, director of operations at Army Cyber Command, said bug bounty programs help the Army protect critical data, systems and networks in alignment with the service's security measures.
“Hacker-powered security is not only a best practice in the US military, but it is now a mandated requirement among civilian federal agencies,†said Marten Mickos, CEO at HackerOne.
The latest challenge is the eleventh bug bounty program between the company and DDS.
HackerOne facilitates bug bounty testing, vulnerability assessments and penetration testing for security systems.
