Stephen Kovac, vice president of global government and head of corporate compliance at Zscaler, said a recent discussion he moderated for the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council provided insights on cybersecurity, cloud technology and information sharing.
He wrote in a GCN guest piece published Monday that cloud service providers play a key role in government cyber resiliency initiatives as more agencies embrace a threat-based model to secure IT networks.
“Building resilience requires continuous refinement, evolution and the ability to gain situational awareness," Kovac said.
The Zscaler executive quoted Steven Hernandez, chief information security officer at the Department of Education, as saying in the panel discussion that ED relies on cloud infrastructure to manage and protect the majority of its mission-critical workloads.
Sean Connelly, a program manager at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, noted at the same forum that CISA offers a Trusted Internet Connections 3.0 roadmap to guide agencies toward implementing remote patching concepts.
The TIC 3.0 guidance works to help cloud companies incorporate telemetry data into government cybersecurity efforts such as the Department of Homeland Security's Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation program, according to Kovac.
