AAR has been certified under a Federal Aviation Administration program that seeks to ensure compliance of maintenance, repair and overhaul service providers and other organizations with safety management system requirements.
The move to implement an SMS Voluntary Program-compliant system at AAR facilities is aimed at spotting and addressing safety issues and trends early for better customer service, the company said Friday.
AAR sites in Rockford, Illinois; and Miami, Florida, now employ the SMS process using APRISe, the company's software designed to ensure MRO quality and safety. The proprietary closed-loop system also features audit findings, customer feedback and injury reporting, as well as functions for investigations and import or export compliance.
"SMS will be implemented at our remaining MRO sites in 2021," said Art Smith, chief quality officer at AAR.
The FAA, along with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Transport Canada Civil Aviation and the International Air Transport Association, sets standards for aviation safety through the SMS Voluntary Program.
