General Dynamics' mission systems business has demonstrated military code commands with a micro transponder technology designed to support small unmanned aircraft systems.
The company said Friday it showcased a five-ounce military communications module at a recent event hosted by Innovation and Modernization Patuxent River, the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division's partnership with the Georgia Tech Research Institute.
GDMS developed the miniature device to also protect data at rest and for potential use in other manned and unmanned platforms that have size, weight and power requirements.
Software updates for the transponder can be done through the use of a standard military processor, the company added.
