Mark Bohannon, vice president of government affairs at Red Hat, has said the federal government should establish a long-term strategy for its remote workforce and drive cloud implementation to ensure continued operations following the pandemic.
Bohannon wrote in an opinion piece published Sunday on FCW that agencies should work to accelerate the deployment of commercial technologies while ensuring the development of a “post-COVID†plan to cover a three-year period.
The information technology modernization blueprint must cover secure networks for personnel working from home as well as the maintenance of an IT inventory system.
According to Bohannon, the government must earmark full funding for the Technology Modernization Fund while expediting investments into hybrid cloud and other emerging cyber approaches such as microservices and containerization.
“With these actions, the U.S. government can target its IT investments effectively to support the needs of remote workers,†he said.
“It will also enable IT modernization that promotes long-term transformation to cloud and related technologies and continuity of critical mission support activities regardless of location or circumstance.â€
