McKean Defense Group has won a potential five-year, $69.8M contract to help the U.S. Navy engineer a tactical afloat network for battlespace information sharing and situational awareness.

The company will provide programmatic and technical support for the Navy's Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a $12.2M base value, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

The branch asked McKean Defense to also update communications, networking and computing systems, as well as support information assurance and certification efforts related to the CANES infrastructure comprised of five shipboard legacy networks.

Two offers were submitted to the Naval Information Warfare Center for the IDIQ via a competitive bidding process.

Contract work will take place in California, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Italy and Bahrain.
