The General Services Administration has selected Kantara Initiative to perform third-party evaluation of the federal government's unified login service against digital identity protection standards set forth by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Kantara said Wednesday it will assess whether the login.gov portal operates in accordance with NIST Special Publication 800-63-3 provisions for user identity proofing and authentication.
The single sign-on platform supports 25M users across 17 federal organizations, including the Executive Office of the President, the nonprofit consortium noted.
Colin Wallis, executive director at Kantara Initiative, said the organization created assessment criteria against the NIST SP’s normative requirements to drive consistency in the evaluation of credential service providers.
The alliance received designation as a U.S. Government Trust Framework provider to the former FICAM Trust Framework Solutions program at GSA in 2011.
