Pete Trainer, vice president and general manager for BAE Systems’ U.S. Air Force solutions segment, has said a robust digital engineering environment will help the service collate data from disparate sources for joint missions.
Trainer wrote in an opinion piece published Thursday on C4ISRnet that DEE combined with model-based systems engineering is key to achieving the U.S. Space Force’s mission goals, as well as objectives for Joint All-Domain Command and Control operations with allies.
He noted that defense agencies must work to align and integrate stovepiped assets to accommodate cloud-based and modular open architectures compatible with software-enabled and service-based technologies.
“The ultimate goal: a formidable, cyber-secure DEE operating across air, land, sea and space elements, enabling both new and legacy data to be collected, integrated, assessed and rapidly delivered to appropriate decision-makers to quickly respond to war-fighter needs to save lives and successfully execute joint domain missions,†added Trainer.
According to Trainer, the DEE is meant to help users acquire and synthesize data to support situational awareness as well as a “secure enterprise environment able to deliver assured capabilities to ensure U.S. space dominance.”
