An Ultra Electronics subsidiary has received a $31M order to supply software-defined tactical radio systems to the U.S. Marine Corps for line-of-sight communications.
USMC ordered Orion X500 radios from Ultra TCS under a potential $497M indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to replace the branch's AN/MRC-142 and wireless point-to-point link systems, the company said Monday.
Orion is designed to help military users communicate across multiple channels and frequency bands within a congested or a contested environment.
Ultra TCS secured a separate 10-year, $145.4M IDIQ last month to build an amphibious tactical communications system designed to facilitate wireless communications between U.S. Navy landing craft and USMC shore systems.
The company added that the U.S. Army also selected the Orion technology for the branch's Terrestrial Transmission Line of Sight Radio program of record.
