Motorola Solutions has unveiled a handheld radio offering the company designed with broadband features to help firefighters transmit data and voice communications.
APX NEXT XE has a touchscreen display interface that can work with gloves, radio voice control, a push-to-talk service and messaging, collaboration and mapping applications, the company said Wednesday.
Firefighters can use the device to transmit multimedia messages, trace colleagues within an interactive map and provide GPS location data in real time.
According to Motorola Solutions, its new product is the successor of the company-made APX NEXT radio for law enforcement use and allows users to switch between broadband and Project 25 modes if the operator is traveling interstate or abroad.
The company offers XE with the ViQi Voice Control tool to facilitate speech-based radio channel management and battery status checks.
