A radio terminal being developed by Raytheon Technologies' Collins Aerospace subsidiary for the U.S. Air Force has completed preliminary and critical design assessments.
Collins Aerospace said Monday its offering for the branch's Software Programmable Open Mission Systems Compliant radio development program is designed with an open architecture and scheduled for demonstration in the first quarter of 2021.
The three-channel SPOC radio technology will work to simultaneously operate three military waveforms and support system reprogrammability to operate with legacy airborne and ground platforms.
USAF awarded Collins Aerospace an $18.9M contract to participate in the program.
The branch seeks to accelerate integration of new communication waveforms, third-party software and cybersecurity tools into military radio systems.
