Technology Advancement Group and two Raytheon Technologies business units have been shortlisted by the U.S. Space Force for a rapid prototyping program to develop global positioning system devices.
TAG and Raytheon's Collins Aerospace business and intelligence and space unit secured firm-fixed-price contracts worth $41.1M combined to submit basic working prototypes of the Joint Modernized Global GPS Handheld technology, the Space and Missile Systems Center said Wednesday.
All three vendors were chosen out of five offerors after the initial mockup design and drawing phase.
USSF plan to hold four demonstration events with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps to determine the potential of new GPS offerings to address military signal, anti-jamming and size requirements.
Col. Clifford Sulham, chief of the user products division at SMC, said the program will mark the first military GPS handheld technology modernization effort in more than 15 years.
