L3Harris Technologies has provided its LTE and land mobile radio offerings to support connectivity applications for healthcare agencies and first-responders amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Urgent Communications reported Wednesday.
Nino DiCosmo, president of the L3Harris' public safety and professional communications division, told the publication in an interview that the company offered agencies free access to its BeOn application that handles LMR-based push-to-talk and broadband services.
DiCosmo noted that  AT&T and the First Responder Network Authority are working with L3Harris to update the latter's XL radio communications device designed to support LMR and LTE connectivity.
L3Harris expects to deliver "derivative extensions on the XL platform" to support integrated LMR and LTE functionalities in 12 to 15 months, he said.
According to DiCosmo, L3Harris’ recent initiatives drove interest in hybrid networks and builds on the company’s push to launch its XL portfolio online despite operational disruptions.
The company is also planning to leverage new material-science concepts such as thermal dynamics as part of the effort, he added.
