The Department of Defense is looking for commercially available launch services to help send lightweight payloads to low-Earth orbit.

The DoD's Defense Innovation Unit said in a solicitation notice that it seeks “as a service” rideshare launch support for an undisclosed mission involving spacecraft and payloads ranging from 992.1 to 2.6K pounds.

DIU noted that it plans to execute approaches based on both commercial rideshare services and traditional government launches as part of the Responsive Launch II effort.

Interested offerors must also have the capacity to demonstrate initial LEO launches within at least 18 months, the notice states.

Responses to the solicitation are due on Aug. 8.
