York Space Systems has received a contract from the U.S. Air ForceÂ to explore an approach to accelerate space imagery delivery with the use ofÂ commercial technology.
The companyÂ said Tuesday will collaborate with the Metropolitan State University of Denver on theÂ study as part of theÂ Small Business Technology Transfer contract and apply software and tools for processing of imagery products from anÂ Earth-observing spacecraft.
York also plans to useÂ its operational spacecraft andÂ payload interfaces during the study.
MSU Denver will establish a space data analytics laboratory where students can analyzeÂ image enhancement methods. The university also intends toÂ equip the facility with automatedÂ test and analytics platforms.
Jeff Forrest, chair and professor at MSU Denver's aviation and aerospace science department, said the partnership seeks to to mentor future aerospace professionals.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently awarded York a contract to help NOAA'sÂ National Environmental Satellite, DataÂ and Information Service analyze satellite mission and instrument design.
