York Space Systems has received a contract from the U.S. Air Force to explore an approach to accelerate space imagery delivery with the use of commercial technology.
The company said Tuesday will collaborate with the Metropolitan State University of Denver on the study as part of the Small Business Technology Transfer contract and apply software and tools for processing of imagery products from an Earth-observing spacecraft.
York also plans to use its operational spacecraft and payload interfaces during the study.
MSU Denver will establish a space data analytics laboratory where students can analyze image enhancement methods. The university also intends to equip the facility with automated test and analytics platforms.
Jeff Forrest, chair and professor at MSU Denver's aviation and aerospace science department, said the partnership seeks to to mentor future aerospace professionals.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently awarded York a contract to help NOAA's National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service analyze satellite mission and instrument design.
