Mark Testoni, CEO of SAP National Security Services and a 2020 Wash100 Award recipient, has said adopting cloud technology could provide a path forward for state and local agencies that seek to address cybersecurity challenges, Dark Reading reported Friday.

He told the publication that cloud architectures offer another layer of defense especially for smaller communities that use web-based platforms and services.

Testoni described the cybersecurity problem as complex due to the number of agencies, school districts and other public organizations throughout the country.

“Typically, these smaller cities and counties don’t have the scale, but they all have their own individual systems that they have to manage,” he said. “It is a lot of different systems and a lot of different architectures and a lot of different capabilities.”

He added that cybercriminals could find an opportunity to exploit government systems as state and local agencies shift focus toward addressing safety and economic risks from the ongoing pandemic.
