Jacobs has been selected for Anglian Water Services' new Strategic Pipelines Alliance (SPA) to deliver a connective infrastructure across the East of England, the Dallas-based company announced Monday.
"We live in a connected world where communities and their infrastructure are only as strong as the weakest link," said Donald Morrison, senior vice president and general manager of people and places solutions for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Jacobs. "Anglian Water appreciates this and their investment through the SPA will help to set up the East of England for prosperous growth and development well into the future."
Jacobs will work to ensure that more than 600 thousand of Anglian Water's customers continue to receive a resilient and safe water supply under the alliance. The company noted that climate change and an increasing population present a key risk to balancing environmental needs.Â
Anglian Water has invested $458 million over the next five years to take 20 regionally significant projects from concept to operation. Jacobs’ alliance will build on the collaborative delivery experience of Anglian Water, Jacobs will focus on long-term, integrated thinking to deliver better outcomes for the customer.
Of the other program participants, Farrans, Mott MacDonald Bentley and Costain will assist in the SPA with Jacobs. The companies will integrate new technology, including digital twins, processes and assets to develop synthetic data generation, prediction, optimization and scenario analysis. The work will help to drive greater efficiency and reliability.
"The SPA is a brand-new organization made up of experienced partners who've been appointed following a tough selection process based on behaviors as well as capability. Together, we'll work as a single, integrated organization, delivering our stretching Water Resources Management Plan to provide safe clean water for generations to come,†said James Crompton, director of strategic projects at Anglian Water.
The alliance adds to Jacobs long history of ensuring a global water supply. In January, Jacobs donated $467 thousand to the Water For People nonprofit organization to help end the global water crisis with sustainable solutions.Â
Jacobs’ inaugural contribution will help drive Water For People's journey to Destination 2030. The 10-year initiative to support low and middle-income countries obtain United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6. The goal will ensure available and sustainable management of water and sanitation.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has named water crises to its Global Risks Report 2020, making it a major global risk and impact. Jacobs’ donation will help the organization develop high-quality drinking water and sanitation services in nine countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia.Â
A partner of Water For People since 1991, Jacobs has donated over $3 million and thousands of volunteers to cement the company’s vision and create global access to reliable and safe drinking water and sanitation.
