A team of Google security professionals has found that advanced persistent threat groups working for Iran and China respectively targeted the election campaigns of President Donald Trump and political rival Joe Biden, The Hill reported Thursday.
Shane Huntley, director of Google's threat analysis group, said Friday in a tweet that his team has warned users about the state-backed phishing scams and reported the security incident to federal authorities.
Huntley noted that TAG members did see any indicators of compromise from the Iranian and Chinese hacking attempts.
He wrote in a blog entry posted May 27 that the group tracks more than 270 hackers worldwide on any given day and aims to counter phishing campaigns, zero-day vulnerabilities and other malicious threats to Google platforms and customers.
TAG sent a total of 1,755 alerts during the month of May to account users who were targets of government-backed cybercriminals, according to Huntley.
