TechWerks has appointed Yuri Campbell, Army senior health IT executive, as vice president for strategic initiatives, the company reported on Wednesday.

In his new role with TechWerks, Campbell will enhance the company’s deep bench of subject matter experts, alongside other well-known veterans such as General (retired) George W.Casey, Jr., and Brigadier General (retired) Rhonda Cornum, PhD, MD.

Prior to joining TechWerks, Campbell served as capability developer and health IT strategist for the U.S. Army’s Health Readiness Center of Excellence. In the role, he focused on defining requirements for Virtual Health.

With the service branch, he also led multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams from various partner organizations to envision and design effective solutions to improve the fitness and health of a global workforce. Campbell analyzed top level objectives and developed strategies to determine the most cost efficient strategies to solve organizational-wide problems.

As chief information officer (CIO) the U.S. Army’s Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Campbell was the technology executive for all IM/IT initiatives for the medical center. He ensured strategic alignment of all of technology, telecommunications, data management, daily operations and project management activities.

Before assuming the role of CIO with the Army, he served as deputy regional CIO for the service branch, where he supervised a team of IT leaders to support the strategic directives of the medical center CEO in support of the CIO.

He was directly responsible for the regional Cyber Security team, where he improved information technology portfolio governance, ensuring efficient operational practices, and securing IM/IT resources while supporting the mission of the medical center.

As a consultant to the Enterprise Project Management Office (PMO) director, he established the organization’s first PMO. Campbell integrated advanced workflow processes as the lead project manager to implement a change management process for the IT enterprise.

He has also recently completed two CIO Fellowships, one with the San Antonio-based Baptist Health Systems and a transition role with the Dell Medical School and UT Health Austin. Under the fellowships, he worked with the Senior IT staff to develop a strategic roadmap, utilizing the Balanced Scorecard method.
