The National Institute of Standards and Technology is asking organizations to share their products and technical expertise in support of a project that seeks to demonstrate how components of the 5G network architecture can offer security capabilities to meet industry’s compliance requirements and reduce identified risks.
The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence’s 5G Cybersecurity: Preparing a Secure Evolution to 5G project “will result in a publicly available NIST Cybersecurity Practice Guide as a Special Publication 1800 series, a detailed implementation guide 5 describing the practical steps needed to implement a cybersecurity reference implementation,†according to the NIST notice slated for publication Wednesday on the Federal Register.
Interested stakeholders should state in their letters of interest the security platform components they intend to offer. Components may include switches and routers, commodity hardware with trust measurements, local and network storage and visualization software.
NIST is also asking organizations to include in their letters how their products could help address security characteristics such as trusted hardware, isolation and policy enforcement, visibility and compliance and EPC-based security feature enablement.
Nextgov reported NIST will take those letters on a “first-come, first-served basis†and will begin collaborative activities 30 days after publication, provided that enough letters of interest have been received.
