Lockheed Announces Relief, Recovery Efforts Amid COVID-19 Pandemic; Marillyn Hewson Quoted

Lockheed Martin has unveiled its plans to extend support efforts for healthcare workers and its employees in the supply chain segment amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Marillyn Hewson, chairman, president and CEO at Lockheed and a 2020 Wash100 awardee, said in a blog post published Friday the company opened 5K job posts and employed nearly 1K new personnel within two weeks.

Lockheed will provide $500 to employees who are regularly reporting to work and has earmarked $106M to support small businesses and the U.S. defense supply chain.

Hewson noted the company donated personal protective equipment at various local hospitals and has initiated efforts to produce medical devices and PPE. Lockheed has also committed to providing $2M in PPE items for healthcare workers.

The firm previously provided $10M to nonprofit organizations involved in COVID-19 relief efforts and released $6.5M in disaster relief funds to support employees that were affected by the pandemic.

“As we all deal with the challenges of the health crisis, we will continue to perform and deliver critical products and capabilities for the United States and our allies, support job creation and help those in need wherever we operate,” said Hewson.
