Don Widener on BAE’s Partnership With UiPath, AI Work

Don Widener, technical director of advanced analytics lab and ISR analysis portfolio at BAE Systems, told Unite.AI in an interview published Tuesday about the company’s partnership with UiPath to deliver machine learning and automation capabilities to the intelligence community and defense agencies through a robotic operations center.

Widener said the use of robotic process automation platforms like those from UiPath could help reinforce analysts with communities of practice and customized training courses. “Analysts with no programming foundation can build automation models or ‘bots’ to address repetitive tasks,” he added.

He cited the role of artificial intelligence in cyber threat analysis as well as BAE’s partnership with Dell to demonstrate the latter’s AI Ready Bundle for Machine Learning at RSA 2020.

Widener noted that BAE is working on several deep learning methodologies and those include COVID-19, Motion Imagery and Humanitarian Disaster Relief. He also discussed computer vision and the data labeling challenge facing the technology.
