General Atomics is promoting a community report on the country’s efforts to pursue fusion-based electricity.

The American Physical Society highlighted a strategy to commercialize fusion energy applications and technologies in a report titled “The Community Plan for Fusion Energy and Discovery Plasma Sciences,” General Atomics said Monday.

The report also includes the U.S. fusion community’s proposed milestones for the creation of commercial fusion applications.

APS’ Division of Plasma Physics Community identified and publicly discussed research objectives to form the report.

Jeff Quintenz, senior vice president of General Atomics’ energy group, said economical fusion energy will boost access to clean, safe energy.

“This report and the comprehensive process that produced it are critical steps toward reaching that goal,” he said.

The Department of Energy’s Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee will use the community’s input to form strategic guidance on applied fusion energy.
