Susan Mashiko, a retired U.S. Air Force major general and former deputy director at the National Reconnaissance Office. has joined the board of directors of Virgin Orbit's VOX Space subsidiary.
She will fill the seat vacated by Douglas Loverro, now associate administrator of NASA's human exploration and operations mission directorate, VOX Space said Monday.
Mashiko noted she believes the company-developed LauncherOne platform has the potential to support national security space missions.
Her 35-year USAF career has included time as program executive officer for environmental satellites, director of space acquisition at the service branch and vice commander of the Space and Missile Systems Center.
She retired from military in 2014 and subsequently established advisory firm SKM Aerospace in Arlington, Va.
