The Defense Logistics Agency and the Defense Contracting Management Agency have issued modifications to existing contracts with multiple companies that offer medical equipment as well as transportation and communication support services.
Lt. Col. Mike Andrews, a Department of Defense spokesman, said in a statement released Saturday that DLA awarded four vendors a total of $84.4M to supply 8K ventilators designed to help treat COVID-19 patients.
DLA agency expects shipments of 1.4K mechanical breathing devices to occur in early May as part of the time-phased delivery over. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will determine the delivery locations.
DCMA decided to increase progress payments to 90 percent for large companies and 95 percent for smaller firms through a mass modification on nearly 1,500 contracts.
Andrews noted that Ellen Lord, the Pentagon’s acquisition chief and a 2020 Wash100 awardee, “remains very grateful and proud of the 140,000 strong acquisition workforce, who continue to selflessly support efforts to combat COVID-19.â€
