Some contractors and experts said they expect to see a disruption in the transition to the General Services Administration's $50B Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions telecommunications contract as federal agencies demand for more telework capacity amid the coronavirus pandemic, FCW reported Wednesday.
“Agencies switched gears to operationalization and away from procurement. Agencies are ordering things through existing contracts†due to COVID-19, David Young, senior vice president for public sector at CenturyLink and a two-time Wash100 award winner, told the publication in an interview Tuesday.
"You can't do IT transformation in the middle of a health crisis," said Young. He added that telecom contractors are accelerating efforts to support agencies’ critical need for bandwidth.
A spokesperson for GSA said the agency does not expect changes to EIS transition deadlines. "GSA will work with each agency that has awarded task orders on a case-by-case basis to mitigate any transition delays due to coronavirus,†the spokesperson added.
