Chris Howard, vice president of U.S. public sector at Nutanix, has said there are three things federal information technology leaders should learn from private sector organizations when it comes to cloud adoption and one is that they should not view cloud as a “one size fits all†solution.
Howard wrote in a FedTech Magazine article published Monday about the potential benefits of audits and subscription service contracts to agencies.
Another factor Howard said agencies should consider is the implementation of an edge computing network. “In doing so, they can be sure that critical systems in the field operate as needed, when needed, preventing costly disruptions that would otherwise keep them from fulfilling their agencies’ objectives,†he wrote.
The third lesson calls for organizations to see cloud security as something that “must be handled on an ongoing, proactive basis in a constant effort towards improvement,†Howard noted.
He said federal IT leaders should not view the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program certification as the final destination but rather as “an essential first step in the never-ending effort to remain secure.â€
