Collins Aerospace and Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works advanced development arm collaborated to demonstrate a new electro-optical/infrared sensor variant.
Collins’ Senior Year Electro-Optical Reconnaissance System 2C, or SYERS-2C, demonstrated long-range tracking on the U-2 Dragon Lady aircraft, Lockheed said Tuesday.
SYERS-2C works to boost optical performance and threat detection accuracy of the aircraft designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
The 10-band sensor enables U-2 to identify, track and analyze targets in a wide range of weather conditions and allows data sharing with other 5th generation systems.
“This milestone continues our commitment to increase the flexibility of the aircraft using open mission systems to support the multi-domain battlespace,†said Irene Helley, U-2 program director at Skunk Works.
