The U.S. Air Force has selected Alion Science and Technology to demonstrate a virtual wargaming system at an upcoming event.

The company said Wednesday it will present its Virtual Sandbox to USAF, U.S. Joint Forces and the AFWERX innovation program at the Future of Wargaming Showcase event that will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Virtual Sandbox uses mixed-reality to generate virtual, integrated simulations for warfighting using data derived from radio frequency; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; live, virtual and constructive; full-motion video and other activities.

The open-architecture system employs artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality to deliver integrated representations of real-world scenarios.

“Alion pairs off-the-shelf technology from the government and commercial sectors with open source software to take advantage of innovations and best practices for wargaming,” said Katie Selbe, the company’s senior vice president and general manager of the company’s cyber network solutions group.

Alion is among 24 USAF-selected presenters for the event.
