Northrop Grumman has demonstrated the unmanned use of its mine-hunting sonar with a new deploy and retrieval payload.
The company said Monday it tested the AQS-24 sonar with a D&R payload in water from a mine countermeasures unmanned surface vessel.
AQS-24 allows USVs to transmit data to remote operators for real-time mission analysis, supporting the detection needs of MCM operations.
The sonar simulated a mine-hunting scenario with the use of a littoral combat ship’s MCM mission package.
Alan Lytle, vice president of undersea systems at Northrop Grumman, said the test displayed mine hunting functions supported by LCS MCM hardware.
