The Department of Energy plans to award $35M in grants to 118 small businesses through the first phase of the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs to enable research and development projects.
Phase I grants will run for six to 12 months with a baseline award of $200K and will cover the study of potential approaches that will support DOE’s Office of Science, the department said Monday.
The grantees include concepts for nanoionics proton-conducting electrolytes, a novel proton alignment tool for isotope production and a digital holographic microscope for various biological systems.
Awardees are eligible to submit their applications for Phase II of the programs, which will enable recipients to build prototypes and methodologies following the results of their Phase I efforts. Phase II grants will run for two years with a median award of $1.1M.
